How to Connect Ledger to Phantom

You have a Ledger and want the same hardware-level security in Phantom that you may already have in MetaMask. The good news: connecting Ledger to Phantom follows the same principle: the Ledger stays the vault, Phantom becomes the window. Your private keys never leave the device. If you have done how to connect Ledger to MetaMask, the logic is identical here, just with different steps and broader chain support across Solana, Bitcoin, and EVM networks. Note that Phantom currently only supports Ledger; Trezor and Tangem are not compatible.

Before You Start

Make sure the following are in place before connecting:

Ledger set up with a PIN and seed phrase backed up offline
Phantom installed on your browser or mobile device
Ledger Live updated; Solana and/or Ethereum apps installed on the device via Ledger Live's Manager tab
Understand hardware wallet security if you are new to hardware wallets

Close Ledger Live completely before connecting. It holds the USB connection and will block Phantom from detecting the device.

Method 1: Browser Extension (USB)

Works with all Ledger models: Nano S, Nano S Plus, Nano X, Stax, and Flex. Use Chrome or Brave for best USB compatibility.

Connect your Ledger via USB and unlock it with your PIN.
Open Phantom, click your profile avatar (top-left), select Add Account, then Connect Hardware Wallet.
A new tab opens. Phantom scans for your device. Click Connect, select your Ledger from the browser pop-up, then Continue.
Select a network (e.g. Solana) and open the matching app on your Ledger. Repeat for each network you want to add.
Your Ledger accounts appear in Phantom. Select the address you want to use.

To sign a transaction: keep the Ledger connected, open the correct app (Solana app for SOL, Ethereum app for EVM), initiate the transaction in Phantom, then approve it on the device.

Method 2: Mobile App (Bluetooth)

Nano S and Nano S Plus do not have Bluetooth and cannot connect to Phantom mobile; use Method 1 instead. The Nano X, Stax, and Flex support Bluetooth.

Unlock your Ledger and keep it unlocked throughout. If it locks during setup, restart Phantom and begin again.
Open Phantom mobile, tap Import Wallet, then Connect Hardware Wallet.
Allow Bluetooth access and tap Connect your Ledger Device. Select your device from the list and tap Continue.
Select your networks, open the matching app on Ledger when prompted. Your Ledger accounts will appear in Phantom.

Enabling Blind Signing

Some Solana transactions (DeFi interactions, NFT mints, token swaps) require blind signing enabled on the Ledger. Without it, those transactions will fail at the confirmation step.

Solana app: Open the Solana app on your Ledger, go to Settings, find Blind signing, set to Enabled.
Ethereum app: Same path in the Ethereum app for EVM usage.

Enable it only for the apps you actively use. It is not a global setting.

Troubleshooting

Phantom does not detect the Ledger (browser): Close Ledger Live, confirm the USB cable is data-capable (not charge-only), try a different port.

Transaction fails or wrong network: Open the correct app on Ledger before initiating: Solana app for SOL and SPL tokens, Ethereum app for EVM chains.

Mobile keeps disconnecting: Keep the Ledger unlocked. A locked screen drops the Bluetooth pairing immediately. Unlock the device, restart Phantom, and reconnect.

Browser permission denied: Open Add Account, click Connect Hardware Wallet again, select the device. If still blocked, clear the USB permission in browser site settings.

Account address looks wrong: You may have selected a different derivation path. Use the same network as when you originally funded the wallet.

Conclusion

Once connected, your private keys stay on the Ledger. Phantom is the interface: you see balances and approve transactions there, but every signature happens on the device itself.
